You will soon find that most shower heads have been designed to conserve water whilst delivering the most powerful stream of water for you to shower comfortably. This is particularly important if you want to avoid wasting natural resources as well as reducing the amount of hot water you use whilst having a shower. Many shower heads now come with an adjustment head which can control the type and amount of water that is sprayed whilst you are showering.
Also you can now get a wide range of colours, shapes, sizes and functions of shower head so choosing the one for your bathroom is entirely dependent on your own personal tastes and how much you have in your budget. The lower priced ones are just simple shower heads that just spray water whilst the ones that are more expensive come with temperature control, massage features and in some cases may have more than one water jet.
If you need to replace the shower head then you will need an adjustable wrench and some Teflon tape. Begin by fitting the wrench to the flat surface at the base of the shower head and then twist counter clockwise to loosen it. Complete the unscrewing of the head by hand. Next you need to clean the threads on the pipe which sticks out from the wall any remove any sediment or pipe compound on this part of the shower.
Now take the Teflon tape and wrap between 9 to 12 inches around the threads of the pipe in a clockwise fashion. Then smooth the tape into threads and make sure that it does not extend over the tops of the threads or it may show when you have completed the work.
Now get the new shower head and carefully and gently thread this onto the threads in a clockwise direction using your hands at first, but once you are no longer able to turn it by hand us the wrench to tighten it up completely. However, when doing this be careful and try to avoid scratch the finish on the shower head as you are tightening it with the wrench. Now turn on the shower and test for any leaks, if there are any then tighten the shower head until the leaks stop.
As you can see replacing a Shower Head will only take about 5 minutes and you will be astounded at the difference a hot relaxing shower can make.
